Frederick William having been born and raised in Rothley went to Australia aboard the SS Habsburg in October 1890 aged 21. Elizabeth Ball sailed to Australia aboard the SS Nurnberg in August 1889 aged 27. Frederick probably decided to try is luck during the Gold rush in Australia. It is known that he turned up in Ballarat, which was a town at the centre of the Gold rush. It should also be noted that we have recently discovered that there were other Chettle Families in Ballarat at the same time as Frederick but as yet we have not found the connection to link them into this tree.
